Week of Action Events in Maine
Maine Campus Compact
Drive for Hunger and Homelessness
As part of the Raise Your Voice: Student Action for Change initiative, February 16-22, 2003 has been declared A Week of Action. The week is intended to increase, celebrate and deepen student civic engagement efforts around the country. Students from seven Maine colleges that are on break during A Week of Action will take part in Maine Campus Compacts alternative break trip to Washington, DC, to work on issues of hunger and homelessness. Since A Week of Action is intended to highlight all forms of student civic engagement, their activities in DC will include direct service, policy change efforts, legislative visits and a dialogue with Washington, DC students. Upon their return to Maine, students will organize events on their campus in connection with A Week of Action and will also meet with state legislators to discuss the issues of hunger and homelessness in Maine.
