Minnesota Campus Compact Student Workshop on Socially Responsible Investing and Community Reinvestment
February 22, 2005, 4:00-9:00 p.m.
4th Floor, Old Main, Macalester College, St. Paul

Participants will hone their skills as change agents and network with other student activists while exploring the potential to transform their communities through advocating for socially responsible institutional investing on their campuses. This gathering will allow students to talk with key resource people, including Mark Orlowski, Executive Director of the Responsible Endowments Coalition, a diverse network of students and alumni
from across the country dedicated to advancing socially and environmentally responsible investing in college and university endowments; Vic Rosenthal, Executive Director of Jewish Community Action, which has spearheaded a community reinvestment initiative in the Twin Cities; and Minnesota Campus Compact staff working on MCC’s Community Development Initiative.

Building Bridges 2005
"You must be the change you wish to see in the world"

Building bridges is a student initiated and student led conference that promotes change through the awareness of diversity. The conference will be held March 11th and 12th 2005.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Building Bridges Conference, in honor of this we want to recognize the change that each of us can make in our world. Our theme this year is a famous quote by Mahatma Gandhi, “You must be the Change you wish to see in the world.” The sub themes which we will focus on will be about creating change through peace, acceptance, and inclusion.

Third Annual Civic Engagement Conference
Uncommon Ground? - Metropolitan Perspectives on the Public Good

What do Metro-area citizens think about the quality of our public institutions and public officials? What do they think about transportation, security, public education, the regional economy, immigration, and other issues? Do central city and suburban residents share common ground or are we becoming two—or even three regions? What role does Metropolitan State University play in the development of a strong civic culture in our region? Come and discuss these questions and more.

HIGHLIGHTS:
· Metropolitan State University Professors David O’Hara and Roger Israel present findings from the eighth Civic Confidence survey (2:00)
· James Southwick, Minnesota Community Project; Mitch Pearlstein, Center for the American Experiment; and Kerri Miller, host of MPR’s Midmorning respond to and highlight key survey findings
· Roundtables focusing on issues important to Metropolitan State students, faculty, staff, and community partners (3:45)
· Celebration of civic engagement at Metropolitan State, complete with food and entertainment (4:45)
