Utah:
Utah Campus Compact- On February 24, every University and College President, every Student Body President, and every Campus Service Board Representative will combine to serve a sit down meal to the homeless population in Salt Lake City raising statewide awareness of this growing problem in Utah. A local homeless activist and university faculty member will be speaking to provide academic reflection and to help campuses understand how they can better connect with the community.
Brigham Young University will sponsor a Community Appreciation Day where college and K-12 students will participate in a variety of activities designed to show gratitude to the Provo community, including cleaning public facilities and volunteering at the local Seniors Center. This will also serve to raise awareness among students concerning the needs of their community as they work to meet those needs that day.
College of Eastern Utah- The SUN (Serving Utah Network) Center at CEU will be holding a Volunteer Fair in order to inform both students and citizens of the many organizations that are making a positive impact on their community. Students will also be made aware of the organizations that the college can partner with in helping students to become more civically engaged and active in their community. Participants are to include the Carbon County Food Bank, Active Re-Entry, and the Golden Rule Mission among others.
Dixie State College will be having a Voice of Dixie Week where activities will be held daily to promote student involvement with local and state politics, voting, and being civically engaged students. Forums and speakers will be held during this week. That week will be followed by a Make a Difference Week with each day being dedicated to different aspects of a students like including: in your Home, on your Campus, in your Community, and in your Life. Different workshops will be held each day according to the days focus.
LDS Business College will be holding a forum where the specific focus will be on voter registration and a lifetime of participation as a voter in all elections in which students are eligible to exercise this civic responsibility and right. Former US Senator and astronaut Jake Garn will be speaking at this event.
Salt Lake Community College will be staging a Volunteer Fair to give students, staff, and faculty a chance to learn more about service learning and volunteer opportunities and how they can became more involved members of their community.
Snow College will be announcing the official opening of the Snow College Center for Service and Learning. This center will be used to continue to train student leaders on how they can go into the community and work with a community partner in initiating student driven community service programs that will serve to strengthen the Ephraim community. They will also be hosting a faculty forum where integrating service learning into the facultys current academic curriculum will be the focus.
Southern Utah University will be participating in the Pay It Forward Tour that will be providing day-long service opportunities in the Southern Utah/Northern Arizona area during Spring Break. SUU will also be sponsoring their annual Womens Conference featuring Pamela Atkinson and will be hosting Soap Box lunch with a guest speaker on community activism and on how students can raise their voice.
The University of Utah will be hosting a Roots Issue Forum where community representatives and students will come together to discuss environmentally-related health concerns. They will focus on three pollution related concerns/problems of the Wasatch Front.
Utah State University- USU will be hosting Brutally Honest where students will be encouraged to stand on a soap box and raise their voice regarding social justice and other issues of concern. The Val R. Christensen Service Center will also be sponsoring Service Week where a variety of service project will be hosted including quilting, blood drive, humanitarian aid, service to the elderly, and literacy projects.
Utah Valley State College will have a Campus wide book drive to help the local Westridge Elementary School. Students will be encouraged to donate books and following the drive, college students will be organized and will go into the elementary school and read to students.
Weber State University students will be pledging 3,000 hours of community service that will be carried out during the Month of Action through WSUs Volunteer Involvement Program that facilitates community service opportunities in the Ogden area.
Westminster College will be hosting a Day of Leadership with the focus on service, service learning and how students can get involved. Westminster will also be hosting the Key Bank Diversity Lecture Series as well as the Rabbi Shmuley lecture.
