The event will begin at 1:00 pm. with a keynote address and refreshments. Every hour on the hour throughout the day guest speakers will address topics such as the importance of civic involvement, current legislative issues, and advocacy. Every half hour, tours of the statehouse will be offered. Social Workers Legislative Education and Advocacy Day (LEAD)
February 4, 2004
This one-day event, geared towards social work students, is being held in preparation for the Month of Action at the Indiana Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis. Students will be educated about the political process, participate in policy discussions, march to the statehouse, and rally with legislators. Breakout sessions will include child welfare, civil rights for gay and lesbian individuals, and other issues concerning the social work profession such as licensure and state funding for social services. This event is a collaborative event supported by a variety of student and social work groups including the National Association of Social Workers and the Indiana Association for Social Work Educators, as well as the Indiana University School of Social Work. Hoosiers for Higher Education: A Day at the Statehouse

Hoosiers for Higher Education (HHE) and the IU East Alumni Association are co-sponsoring this event for IU East students to attend this Annual Statehouse Visit. This is an opportunity for HHE members and students from across the state to gather in Indianapolis and visit with their elected officials about Indiana University and higher education. HHE members are also invited to attend a luncheon with their elected officials to hear an update on higher education issues. Students from IU East will be taking a bus from campus leaving at 8:30 a.m.

Campus Wide Service Week
February 15 20, 2004
University of Indianapolis will host a Campus Wide Community Service Week entitled Bringing the U of I Community Together. Students, faculty and staff can participate in service projects with a variety of different community organizations in the surrounding Fountain Square Neighborhood. Service opportunities will be available morning, afternoon, and evening from February 15th through February 20. Pre-service orientation and post-service reflection will be offered.

A group of Ball State Students will attend Indiana Campus Compacts Day at the Statehouse Event to meet legislators, voice their opinions on issues, and tour the statehouse.
A guest speaker will speak on the importance of civic engagement on campus from 7:30 p.m. 8:30 p.m.

National Teleconference, evening Hunger Banquet, Excellence in Leadership Keynote Speaker Tom Martinez
The national teleconference on The New Student Politics will be broadcast via satellite from 2 3 p.m. Student members from the National Communication Association Student Club (NCASC) will host a post-event dialogue to discuss the call.
A hunger banquet will be held in the evening where guests will be given cards at the beginning w/different shapes on each card that represent a different countries status. Guests will be given amounts of food contingent with whatever status they have been given. All guests will also be asked to bring a canned food item for donation.
Tom Martinez, author of Brotherhood of Murder and former white supremacist, will speak on the danger of the Neo-Nazi right and the importance of diversity.
