American Bar Association Legal Opportunity Scholarship
"The American Bar Association (ABA) Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund works to encourage racial and ethnic minority students to apply to law school and to provide financial assistance to ensure that these students have the opportunity to attend law school for three years."

American Indian College Fund
All available scholarships recognize leadership, service and commitment to the American Indian community.

Amnesty International USA, Patrick Stewart Human Rights Scholarships
"This scholarship offers a unique opportunity for students like you to gain practical experience in the field of human rights. Amnesty International USA awards these scholarships to student activists for summer internships or other short-term human rights projects. Ranging from $300 to $1,800, scholarships can be used for travel, materials, and other expenses." (Deadline: March)

The Audre Lorde Scholarship Fund
"The Audre Lorde Scholarship Awards are designed to recognize out* lesbians of African descent who are making significant contributions to their communities. ZAMI wants to support and encourage their continuing education by providing scholarships to those women enrolled in accredited technical, undergraduate and graduate programs."

Bonner Scholars Program
"The Bonner Foundation provides four-year community service scholarships to approximately 1500 students (who are referred to as Bonner Scholars) annually. The scholarship serves those individuals who have high financial need and a commitment to service."

The California Community Service Scholarship Program
"The California Community Service Scholarships will be awarded on the basis on demonstrated commitment to practice in California, interest in community-based primary care or research, satisfactory academic performance, and leadership. Eligibility is limited to third-year students attending California medical schools."

Center for Strategic and International Studies Anne Armstrong Leadership Award
"This award recognizes undergraduates who demonstrate strong potential for leadership in the fields of international affairs. The award ($3,000) is given three times a year to enable recipients to serve as full-time interns at the CSIS during any fall, spring, or summer term during or shortly following their undergraduate careers."

Circle K International Scholarship Information
"Circle K International scholarships are designed to provide recognition and financial assistance to individual members of Circle K clubs who have excelled in areas of their collegiate careers.  The recipients will be Circle K'ers who have achieved academic excellence, demonstrated leadership abilities and provided service to others."

Coca-Cola Two Year Colleges Scholarship Program
"Eligible applicants:
1. Must be one of 2 students nominated by a college campus
2. Must be a U.S. citizen
3. Minimum grade pt. ave. of 2.5
4. Must have completed 100 hours of community service within the previous 12 months
5. Must be planning to enroll in at least 2 courses during the next term at a 2 year institution."

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Scholarship Awards
CHCI awards scholarships to Latino students from the fifty U.S. states and Puerto Rico who have a history of performing public and/or community service activities in their communities. Recipients receive a one-time scholarship of $2,500 to attend a four-year or graduate-level academic institution or $1,000 to attend a two-year community college.

Council on International Educational Exchange Scholarships

Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund
"Since 1961, the Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund has provided need-based grants to student activists who are able to do academic work at the college level and who are actively involved in the movement for social and economic justice."

Donald A. Strauss Scholarship
"The Donald A. Strauss Scholarship allows college juniors to pursue a public service project during their senior year by providing $10,000 for educational expenses."

EPA's Minority Academic Institutions Fellowship Program

"The programs were established to help promising students obtain advanced degrees and pursue environmental careers. The MAI programs support EPA's commitment to expand U.S. scientific knowledge about the environment, by training highly qualified environmental specialists for the future.Eligible undergraduate students will receive up to $17,000 per year of support for their junior and senior years of study and for an internship at an EPA facility during the summer between their junior and senior years."

The Gates Millennium Scholars
"To be eligible for the Gates Millennium Scholarships, students must:
• Be African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American
• have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale
• enter an accredited college or university as full-time, degree-seeking freshmen in the fall
• have a significant financial need (i.e., meet the federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria)
• demonstrate leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities"

Institute for Humane Studies Fellowships and Scholarships

Institute on Philanthropy and Voluntary Service
"The Institute is an intensive six-week residential program for college undergraduates from across the nation. During the summer, approximately 35 students take two courses on the history and ethics of philanthropy and volunteerism worth 6 hours of academic credit from Indiana University. Students also hold internships with nonprofit organizations, attend presentations by leading figures from the nonprofit sector and participate in a variety of service projects. Over half of the students accepted to the program will receive a full or partial scholarship. The Institute is sponsored by The Fund for American Studies and the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University."

J. W. Saxe Memorial Prize
"The J.W. Saxe Memorial Fund provides scholarships annually to one or more undergraduate or graduate students working in public service. The award is meant to enable the student to gain practical experience in public service by taking a no-pay or low-pay job during a summer or other term."

Just Within Reach Scholarships in Environmental Sciences and Marine Studies
"JWR will award three (3) $2,000 scholarships in the area of Environmental Science and three (3) $2,000 scholarships in the area of Marine Studies for the 2003-04 academic year. Martin Luther King, Jr., Scholars Program
"The program was established in commemoration of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and his contributions to civil and human rights in America. Under this initiative, continuing juniors, seniors, or graduate students are eligible to apply for an eight-week, paid internship in the United States Department of Education in Washington, D.C. We expect to select up to ten students for this prestigious honor and opportunity. The students will be placed either in my office or in the office of one of my Assistant Secretaries, where they will gain experience in policy analysis and development. It is an exceptional way for outstanding students to learn about the federal role in education and to experience the value of government service."

Montana Campus Compact Student Community Service Scholarship
These awards will recognize outstanding college students who, through their dedication and commitment to community service and volunteerism, have greatly enhanced civic life in Montana and embodied the true spirit of civic engagement

Morris K. Udall Scholarship
"The Udall scholarship provides $5,000 for educational expenses to outstanding sophomores and juniors who fall into either one of the two following categories: 1) students who study the environment and related fields; OR 2) Native Americans or Alaska Natives in fields related to health care or tribal public policy."

The National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA)
"..is awarding a $5,000 scholarship to an African-American graduate or undergraduate student (junior) interested in pursuing a career in public service. Qualifications include: Full-time student; minimum 3.0 GPA; strong interpersonal skills, excellent writing analytical, and oral communication skills. Mail all college transcripts, 2 reference letters (at least one from a faculty member), and write a 3 page essay detailing his/her autobiography, career goals and objectives. NASW Foundation National Programs
"Education, research and practice are the three most valuable tenets of the social work profession. Research and education are key to assuring that the best qualified social workers address individual, family, community, and societal needs. With that in mind, the NASW Foundation currently administers 16 national programs, each with its own unique history and mission."

The Phillips Foundation Ronald Reagan Future Leaders Scholarship Program
"The Ronald Reagan Future Leaders Scholarship Program seeks to recognize outstanding young people who are promoting American values on college campuses. The scholarships are designed to alleviate the financial burdens associated with higher education, permitting the winners to devote more time both to pursuing their academic goals and advancing their leadership initiatives."

Premed of Color Student Scholarship for Community Service

For students nationwide who develop a community service project plan that impacts underserved communities. The scholarship is one (1) $500 scholarship for continuing students currently enrolled in a four-year university or community college.

Presidential Freedom Scholarships
The program is designed to highlight and promote service and citizenship by students and to recognize students for their leadership in those areas.

Rhode Island Foundation's Scholarship Directory

Sallie Mae Fund Scholarships
"In 2004, the Sallie Mae Fund, a charitable organization sponsored by student loan company Sallie Mae, will award more than $2.5 million in scholarships to help enroll students in college through its community-based initiative, Project Access. The fund seeks to help increase access to higher education for a diverse generation of Americans through its support of the following scholarship programs for ethnic minority and underserved students."

Target All Around Scholarship for Students
"Each year, Target awards more than 2,100 All–Around Scholarships—including four $10,000 national scholarships and two smaller scholarships for each Target store—to high school seniors and college students age 24 and younger. Scholarships recognize volunteer work as well as academic achievement, encouraging students to show us true enlightenment goes beyond what can be learned from textbooks."

Transgender Scholarship and Education Legacy Fund
"Scholarships for transgender identified post-secondary students who have a demonstrated ability in and commitment to affecting change in the transgender communities through their commitment to working and being educated in the helping and caring professions."

Truman Scholarship Program
"The Truman Scholarship is a $30,000 merit-based grant awarded to undergraduate students, who wish financial support to attend graduate or professional school in preparation for careers in government, the non-profit sector or elsewhere in public service."

USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships
"Programs offer $1,500 scholarships to qualified full-time undergraduate and graduate students and $750 scholarships to qualified half-time undergraduates. Applicants for the scholarships must be enrolled or plan to enroll in coursework at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school."

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Greater Research Opportunities (GRO) Program Undergraduate Fellowships
For bachelor level students in environmentally related fields of study. Eligible students will receive support for their junior and senior years of undergraduate study (up to $17,000 per year) and for an internship at an EPA facility during the summer between their junior and senior years (up to $7,500).

Walter W. Mode Scholarship
"The amount of the award each year is determined by the amount available in the Mode Fund managed by the ASPA Endowment. It is granted to a graduate student of public administration who is a member of ASPA and who has demonstrated a commitment to the public service.

William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship for Minority Students
"The Nonprofit Sector Research Fund, a grantmaking program of The Aspen Institute in Washington, D.C., offers the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship in conjunction with a summer internship program open to members of minority groups based on need and academic excellence. Both graduate and undergraduate students are eligible for the award. Through this scholarship program, the Fund seeks to introduce a diverse group of students to issues relating to philanthropy, voluntarism, and nonprofit organizations. Recipients may arrange with their colleges or universities to receive academic credit for this experience."

Charles H. Revson Fellows Program (Columbia University)
"Charles H. Revson Fellows Program allows ten urban activists, organizers, and community builders each year to become Revson Fellows at Columbia University, where they study, gain perspective, and join a growing network of leaders working to improve the city. They receive an $18,000 stipend and free tuition. There are no academic prerequisites and no degree requirements."
