Ideas for Using the Teleconference on Your Campus

• Arrange a viewing of the teleconference with students, the President and campus administration and hold a dialogue after the Teleconference about what it means for your campus to be civically engaged, what is going on now and what can happen in the future

• Share student perspectives with the President and Board of Trustees on the role your campus should and does plays in your community from a dialogue around the teleconference

• Bring administrators, faculty and students together to participate
in the teleconference and hold a discussion and strategic planning session afterwards about your campus

• Partner with a local high school to participate in the teleconference to bring high school students and college students together to discuss what college is about and picking a college to go to

• Inspire faculty to include the teleconference in their course syllabi for spring semester and/or encourage students to attend the teleconference for a class discussion. Try focusing on service-learning classes and education classes.

• Partner with Student Government and other student service and activist groups to host the Teleconference and discuss civic engagement on your campus and how to make it more effective. Engage in strategic planning for advocacy and/or future programming.

• Hold an Issues/Advocacy/Opportunity Fair in conjunction with the Teleconference to let people on campus know about the civic engagement opportunities on campus, including service-learning classes, community service and advocacy groups

• Hold a “Day at Your State House” with arranged meetings with legislators to discuss public issues students care about and how to promote more civic engagement in higher education

• Organize follow-up meetings with students and administrators on how your college or university can encourage and increase student engagement on campus and in the community

• Coordinate with the activities office or academic departments to bring a campus speaker in conjunction with the Teleconference

• Give service-learning credit for attendance to Teleconference events
