Sanple Email about Teleconference from Student Leader:
The National Campus Compact and North Carolina Campus Compact have teamed up to provide the National Student Teleconference on Civic Engagement.
What are some current perceptions of colleges? There are many messages being heard about what higher education is all about - a degree, an opportunity to learn about the world, preparation for a job, a place to meet your future spouse- what is your perspective on the purpose of colleges and universities and do they have a PUBLIC purpose? Should encouraging student civic engagement be central to the mission of higher education? Join other students in discussing the role of higher education and voice your own opinions about what colleges can and should be doing to contribute to public and community life. Help develop and learn concrete ideas about the role that students can play in achieving this vision.
This will be held on February 23, 2005 at fill in time here, during the National Raise Your Voice - Month of Action, February 20 - March 26, 2005.
Was anyone talking to you during the recent election? The answer is probably No. Despite evidence of growing youth involvement and activism, the strong and persistent perception is that most young people are apathetic and cynical. As a result, our leaders talk about us and our future, but they continue to fail to talk to us. It is time we make our voice heard.
At [your school] we will [explain campus activities]
Be on the look out for flyers and posters with more information about how you can join us in Raising Your Voice at [your school] and visit http://www.actionforchange.org to learn more about this national student effort.
