2003-2004:

Community Service Director Training, August 13-14, 2003 – The bulk of the first day of the Ohio CSD meeting will be dedicated to Raise Your Voice. Based on the first year of the program, we learned that in order to better support our student leaders, there was a need for a more informed group of faculty staff on the campus. OCC’s annual CSD/DSL training provides the ideal opportunity to train these important constituents in the RYV program so that they can support their students. Contact Chris Hempfling, occpew@alink.com, 740/587-7680, or visit the OCC website.

Raise Your Voice Student Training, October 18, 2003 – On Saturday, October 18, student leaders from across the state will gather at The Newark Campus of OSU/Central Ohio Technical College in Newark, Ohio. This full day training will walk students through the four-step Raise Your Voice process, providing them tools and understanding of this national student civic engagement campaign. Specific dialogue-facilitating skills will be provided by the Kettering Foundations’ National Issue Forum trainers. The League of Women Voters will also provide part of the training, and national Campus Compact RYV Coordinators Nick Longo and Abby Kiesa are invited to attend this event. Registration materials are available through Ohio Campus Compact. Contact Chris Hempfling, occpew@alink.com, 740/587-7680, or visit the OCC website.

Regional Meetings – National Issues Forums, November 2003 - Two additional training in the facilitating style of the National Issues Forum will be held at Case Western Reserve University and Ohio Northern University. Dates are yet to be determined. These trainings are open to CSDs, DSLs, students, and others who would like to be trained in the NIF model. Contact Chris Hempfling, occpew@alink.com, 740/587-7680, or visit the OCC website.

Model Site Program - Up to five (5) OCC members will be selected through a competitive process to be Model Sites for Raise Your Voice. Model sites will be awarded $250 to assist in their completion of the four-step Raise Your Voice process. Documentation of each step is required, with a publication being created at the end of the year, highlighting best practices, learnings, etc. This publication will be used to seek additional funding and support to continue Raise Your Voice after the grant funds from the Pew Charitable Trusts are complete. The RFP for the Model Sites will be made available on October 18th at the training, and also posted on the OCC website after that date.

Month of Action, February 15- March 20, 2003- Grants are available to support civic activities during Month of Action. Requests for proposals will go out November 1st and will be due December 1st. Priority funding will be provided to OCC members who incorporate the national teleconference into their proposals. See 2004 Month of Action events in Ohio.

National Teleconference, February 19, 2004 - OCC is part of the sponsoring team of Campus Compacts offering the national Raise Your Voice teleconference. OCC members will be able to compete for grant funds to host teleconference sites in Ohio, open to all OCC members. More information will be provided in November 2003.

Day at the Statehouse, February 25, 2004 – This will be Ohio’s second annual Day at the Statehouse. In conjunction with the League of Women Voters, a day of interaction with Ohio’s elected officials and OCC member students is being arranged. More details to follow.
