Raise Your Voice in your state

MONTANA Campaign Activities

See Montana's Raise Your Voice website at www.mtcompact.org/RYV/

In Montana students from every college and university in the state have joined together to form the Student Leadership Team. These folks have all committed to participating in statewide monthly forums where leadership skills are gained, plans are made to accomplish student civic engagment objectives and student engagement practices are shared. The students provide content suggestions for each forum, lead workshops and peer dialogues around the campaign objectives. At forums students have met and worked with lawmakers, discussed careers in the common good and received leadership training. The Students' campus work is designed to compliment already busy and engaged schedules. Students work with peers and student organizations to promote campus dialogues, service and voter registration.

Student Training Institute “A Conference on Civic Engagement”
April 8-10, 2005
MSU-Billings, Billings, MT

Montana Campus Compact's Raise Your Voice Campaign is currently accepting STUDENT PROPOSALS for presentations, panel discussions, and training sessions for its Student Training Institute “A Conference on Civic Engagement”. This is a conference FOR STUDENTS which will be presented BY STUDENTS. Proposals may come from any student currently attending a university or college in Montana. Session-length options are 30, 60, or 90 minutes and should be included in the proposal. Students may collaborate with other students on trainings, presentations, or panel discussions. Students may solicit help and support from faculty or staff mentors, though only proposals showing considerable student initiative will be considered. Students (not faculty or staff) will be expected to lead trainings, make presentations, or participate in panel discussions.

Please note that we are also currently registering conference participants. For more information on the Student Training Institute, or to register, please visit our website at www.mtcompact.org.

2003-2004:

The 2003-2004 Montana Raise Your Voice Campaign began with this year’s first “Student Forum” on the weekend of September 26th-28th. Student leaders, from across the state, converged on Billings, Montana, to network, train, and share ideas with national service members from our Campus Corps and state VISTA programs at the Building Engaged Citizens Conference. The Montana Raise Your Voice Campaign will continue these student forums throughout the year, as a way of connecting engaged students with each other and developing skills vital to their communities.

Student leaders are currently creating “Action Plans” for their respective projects. They’re working to identify the needs of their communities and change systems to be more responsive to those needs. Their projects will range from creating an inter-tribal college newsletter to initiating environmental cleanups (among a host of others).

Montana students can connect with Raise Your Voice through their campus’s Community Service Director or by contacting the Raise Your Voice Campaign Coordinator directly. We invite interested students to visit our website, by clicking on the Raise Your Voice icon, at www.mtcompact.org. Everyone involved with Raise Your Voice is excited to support and create student-driven projects that make Montana a more responsive, caring place.
