2003-2004:

Raise Your Voice Student Trainings: The following dates are trainings for student leaders selected by their campus to be part of the ongoing trainings of RYV. Currently we have 30 students and expect there will be more joining the group.

September 26-27 at Rockford College. Training will consist of a review and walk through of the four-step RYV process. Students will receive manuals with the tools and resources for their use on their campus. Students will be discussing their role in planning the Lobby Day, Teleconference and Student Leadership Conference.

November 15 at College of Dupage. This day long training will be focused on lobbying. Defining it, learning about it from a real Illinois lobbyist and planning for the Illinois Lobby Day. We will also begin the discussion for writing a Public Issues Statement.

Regional Dialogue and Campus Mapping trainings will be set up on campuses as they are requested. The Illinois Campus Compact staff will be the trainers.

February 7 (site to be determined). The Student Conference final details will be decided at this meeting.

Dialogue and Campus Mapping Mini grants for students are available. Grants up to $500 will be awarded to students planning an innovative dialogue or campus mapping event. First deadline is Oct. 10, 2003. RFP’s are available from CSD/SLD’s on member campuses or from the ILCC office.

Month of Action, February 15-March 20. Students are invited to apply for grants up to $300 to support civic engagement activities. Priority funding will be provided to proposals that incorporate activites connected to the National Teleconference on February 19. See 2004 Month of Action events in Illinois.

Lobby Day at the Capital (Springfield). Probably it will be held on February 19. Details are still being worked out on this event.

National Teleconference, February 19, 2004. ILCC is one of the sponsoring Campus Compact states for this event. ILCC members can apply for funding to be a host teleconference site.

Raise Your Voice Student Leadership Conference, February 28, 2004. Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL will host the annual Student Leadership Conference.

RAISE YOUR VOICE LEADERSHIP SERIES: ILCC is hosting a series of leadership workshops on the Rockford College campus. Workshops will inform and train students about such topics as social action for change, lobbying techniques, canvassing for a cause, getting an ethos of service, justice and service, beyond campus mapping.
